Samaria Estonian Mission is a Christian charity organisation. Estonian sub-organisation was registered on 21 August 1991 as a joint project of Finnish Samaria organisation and Haapsalu Baptist Church.
Our main activity is to help people rejected by the society to return to a conventional life. The primary clients are alcoholics and former prisoners. On our part we provide those people with an initial dwelling place and help them get rid of addiction and teach them to cope independently.
The activity is financed chiefly by the humanitarian aid received from Scandinavian partners. During the last years we have also benefited from the charity projects of the European Union and different countries. In addition, we have close cooperation with municipal governments and different ministries to raise the effectiveness of our work even more.
Samaria organisation has shelters in Haapsalu, Pärnu and Hiiumaa. It is where clients are accommodated and offered food, psychological counselling, and spiritual guidance. Support persons, cooks, psychologists, and work instructors are available for the ones who seek help.
The shelters are also centres, where needy families receive help and, if necessary, personal counselling. Another significant part of our work is managing a chain of humanitarian aid shops. The income we get that way enables us to organise the above-mentioned activities and keep them functioning.
